This website is all about weddings.  Now that my other site is offline, it’s going to get a face lift as well and will be my families site.  My blog is still going to be the same, but it’s cosmetic surgery is nearly complete and will be ready to go soon.  I’m so excited about all of these changes.

Hey everyone!  If you met me at the bridal show this past Sunday and you’re waiting on information, you’ll be getting it tomorrow.  I’ve been working on a new website and I was hoping that I would have it done by now…but no luck.  It’s close!  But I’m still in the final editing stages.  I wanted to finish it before I sent you the information so you would have the link to the new one.  I know that you’re tired of waiting and I’m tired of having you on my to do list!  So I’ll be sending out information to all you lovely ladies tomorrow.

To everyone else, I truely am almost done with the website.  I’m really excited about it and I feel like it’s MUCH more me.

Hey Everyone!  I know that many of you know, but not everyone, that I have changed my email address.  I still have my old email address and it’s being forwarded to my new one.  It’s been very difficult to keep up with both addresses and which emails have been answered.  Unfortunately, some emails have fallen through the cracks.  I am working on staying on top of them and trying to get them all answered today.  Please change the address that you have for me in your address book to meggie@meggievelasco.com.  Thanks for your patience!

Times, they are a changin’

I’m sorry that I’ve been so absent lately.  There’s been so much going on and blogging has been the last thing on my mind.  I will have some pictures to post sometime, as soon as I can get around to them.

The Knoxville Bridal Show is going on this weekend and we’ve decided to do a redesign on our booth.  It’s going to be amazing, I hope.  We’ve been working really hard on it and I’ve even involved the help of one of my neighbors.  In my minds eye, it’s killer, but I haven’t set it all up yet, so I could be totally wrong.  I guess we’ll see on Sunday!  If any of you are planning on being at the show, please come by and say hey.  Send other cool people you meet along the way also.  Let me know what you think about the booth too, you can be honest…but I might kick you in the shins if you say the wrong thing.  If you want to save $2 on your ticket, register online by clicking HERE.

I’m going through some re-branding right now.  It’s going to be unveiled at the show on Sunday, another reason to come see me.  Hopefully I’ll be able to launch a new website and blog next week too.  So stay tuned for all that jazz.

Noah started school on Tuesday.  You heard me right, school.  I haven’t posted about him lately, so here’s the cliff’s notes version.  He has stumped the experts!  He had an autism evaluation at the beginning of December and the psychologist basically said he didn’t know.  We went over everything that tests said and that he observed and what things pointed one way and what pointed the other.  So he said “he’s kind of autistic”.  A few days before that, he had an evaluation with ChildFind, which is the program to help get the kids who have delays and disabilities into a preschool.  The women that evaluated him came in all professional and everything and then when they came back to me after being with him for about an hour or so, they were giggly and smitten with my boy!  He’s a charmer!!  They basically said that on paper, he has autism.  However, the same doubts register with everyone.  He has so many things that point away from autism.  So as of now, the psychologist has diagnosed him with “Noah” and the ChildFind experts have diagnosed him as a child with speech and language impairments.  We really think that he will benefit greatly from being at preschool 4 days a week with teachers who are trained to deal with kids with special needs.  There’s already a little boy in his class who is helping Noah stay on track and do what he’s supposed to.  So we’ll have to re-evaluate him in about 6 or so months to see if he’s improved and what the tests say.  It’s a little frustrating to still not know one way or the other, but we’re really happy that he hasn’t been given the autism label if he may not be.  I’ll keep you posted though.

So there’s been a lot going on here.  It’s a new year and I can’t wait to get these January shows behind me so I can start implementing my resolutions for the business.  My hope is that I’ll be able to stay on top of things better this year now that I will have Noah in school for 4 mornings a week.  Here’s to hoping!

so incredibly overwhelmed

I’ve had such a great couple of months of shooting.  I’ve had great clients and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.  The downside of getting to travel to amazing locations with top notch people means that I haven’t been able to be in the office to work on said pictures.  My to-do list is so jammed that it’s overwhelming to the point that I want to cry.  We also went on vacation last week (to Disney…we had an amazing time), which meant a fun week of catching up.  Noah’s school has fall break next week, so that’s not going to be a promising work week.  If you are waiting on pictures, album designs, enlargements, a response from me via email or phone, or anything at all from me…please please please be patient with me.  I’m doing the best I can right now.

So with all of that being said, I’ve grown tired of having weeks and weeks of this.  In order to attempt to get my life back and simplify things, I am not taking any more sessions for the rest of the year.  If you are already booked with me or if you are a wedding next year that needs an engagement session, you guys are safe.  However, if you don’t already have a session booked with me, I’m very sorry because you’ll need to wait until January.  I will gladly book you then.  My goal is to have everything knocked out and an even more streamlined workflow in place by then.  I’m also going to take this time to make some much needed changes that are already in the works.  I need some time to remember why Iove doing this.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job, I’ve just lost my way under all of the back-end work.

I’m very sorry that I’ve let myself get to this point.  Sometimes life just gets away from you and you can’t catch back up unless you take charge.  I’m taking charge and getting my life and business back.

Twilight Support Group

First things first…..don’t judge me…I’m crazy!

A friend of mine turned me on to these books a couple of weeks ago, and I’m a crazy woman.  I started reading the first book, Twilight, on the 12th when I went out to Pawley’s Island to shoot Wells and Kate’s wedding (which was awesome) and finished it a couple of hours after I got back that Sunday night.  I went out on Monday and bought the next 3 books.  I can’t put them down.  I just started the 4th book yesterday and I’m trying to stretch it because it’s the last one.  When I’ve gone a while without reading them, I feel anxious!!!  When I’m not reading them, I’m thinking about them!  I had Carmen and Chris Walker’s wedding this past weekend (which was also awesome) in Ocean Isle and I was there for most of the week with them.  Whenever I wasn’t shooting or being a friend, I was reading!!!  I’m sorry if I wasn’t the best house guest because I was too busy being a silly bookworm.  I don’t know what’s wrong with me.  I’ve never been fanatical about anything to the point of tears, but these books have some crazy hold on me.  I started to think that I had some things deep down that needed to be released and that these books just happen to unlock that part of brain to let them.  However, as I’ve come across people (some total strangers) who have read the books, I’ve learned that it’s NOT JUST ME!  I feel so much better knowing that these books have a vice on EVERYONE who reads them….not just crazy emotional overworked (because I choose to be) women.  This is not just me trying to be funny, this is seriously unhealthy.  I loved the Harry Potter books just as much as the next person, but these are different.  I can’t describe it, but all of you who have read them know what I’m talking about.  I’m an crazy obsessed mad woman!!!  I’m sorry to all of you, my friends and family, that have taken the heat of some of this craziness because I’m pushing you to read them.  I just feel like I’m out on this Twilight island alone and I need some of you to join me!  I think that I may need a support group once I’m done reading the 4th book without a 5th to pick up.

I read on the author’s website, stepheniemeyer.com, that she may not finish writing the 5th book because someone leaked her manuscript…boo.  Stephenie, if you happen upon my blog and this post, please just email me whether I should wait because you will publish it or go ahead and follow the link on your website to the manuscript that was leaked.  I want to finish the 4th book and pick up the 5th, but I want to read it the way that it’s supposed to be read.  BOO HISSS to all you people out there that think it’s ok to put someone else’s work up on the internet without their permission.

The movie of the first book is due to come out November 21st.  Rumor has it that it was the reason that the 6th Harry Potter movie was pushed back to next summer (which I’m bummed about, but will take the trade off in a heartbeat).  If you don’t want to know anything about the book before you read it, then don’t go to the movie website just yet.  The trailers tell you more information than you may want to know.  Wait till after you’ve read it, which will only take a couple of days.

Like I said, I’m a crazy person and I need a support group.  I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself!  I guess I’ll have to go back to working on more pictures for you to see!!  I’m actually editing Ryan and Blair’s pictures from the beginning of September to blog and I should have them ready for you sometime tomorrow.

Oh, something fun I think that the author, Stephenie Meyer, does is create soundtracks to each book.  She has a page on her site that has the music she was listening to while she wrote the books.  I think the choices are interesting.  I don’t hear that music when I read these books though.  I hear the complete opposite.  So I thought I would put together a little playlist of the music I hear in my head when I’m reading.

(these are actually songs that I listen to while I’m editing too….maybe that’s why I hear them all the time.  I keep updating this part of my post because I keep thinking of great songs and the story keeps changing, so do my song choices)

“The Ludlows” – James Horner

“The Gravel Road” – James Newton Howard

“Claire De Lune” – Claude DeBussy

“Evacuating London” – Harry Gregson-Williams

“What are you asking of me” – James Newton Howard

“Will You help me?” – James Newton Howard

“Peter” – Jan A.P. Kaczmarek

“No Holly for Miss Quinn” – Enya

“Rituals” – James Newton Howard

“The Marriage” – Jan A.P. Kaczmarek

“Let Go” – Frou Frou

“William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet – the Balcony Scene” – Performed by The City of Prague Philharmonc

“Fix You” – Coldplay

“Only Hope” – Switchfoot

“Colorblind” – Counting Crows

“On a Night Like This” – Dave Barnes

“My Love” – Sara Bareilles

“Today” – Joshua Radin

“Letting Go” – Johnnyswim

“Why’d You Do It?” – Johnnyswim

“Not Gonna Leave Me Here” – Johnnyswim

“Paperweight” – Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk

“Bella’s Lullaby” – Carter Burwell (a song from the actual movie and not just my head)

“Lovely Tonight” – Joshua Radin

“Fairground” – Joby Talbot

Once again….crazy….I know….it’s bad.

**NOTE**  To anyone who plans on leaving a comment on my blog regarding Twilight and you want to be a spoiler, I will not post your comment.  Keep it clean and friendly.

***UPDATE 2.9.09***  My assistant Katie told me that if you google “twilight support group”, this post is the 4th to come up.  I just googled it, and she’s wrong.  IT’S THE 1st!!!!!  HAHAHA!!!!!  See everyone reading this post desperate to wonder what’s wrong with you, you aren’t alone.  I also just updated the playlist with a couple other goodies.
