What’s going on?

Hey everyone!  I just wanted to take a little time to let you all know what’s going on in my personal life and business life.  We’ve just started down a really exciting cool looking road that, if all goes according to plan, is going to be a great trip.   I started training some girls a couple of weeks ago that are going to be pretty key in the business.  I can’t wait to introduce them all to you.  They all bring something different to the table and I can’t wait to get them in action.  Those of you who have sessions coming up soon will more than likely get to meet them because I’ll have them tag along.    I’m scheduled to have LASIK surgery next Wednesday!  Not many people know this, but my eyesight is pretty atrocious.  My prescription is  -9.25 in each eye.  As of now, contacts and glasses correct my vision so I can operate like everyone else.  However, who knows how long it will be before they don’t make my prescription anymore.  My parents gave me LASIK for christmas.  Well, they offered to pay for it, they didn’t actually perform the surgery!  Anyway, so I’m scheduled to go in on Wednesday and I’m completely terrified.  I wish I could be one of the ones that just goes in and can see 20/20 the next day.  Sadly, I’m going to have to have a recovery period of about a month till I have an idea what the world is going to look like through my new HD eyes.  Don’t think that I’m not freaked out by the new Jessica Alba getting new eyes movie either!  Talk about perfect timing!  Anyway, I would really appreciate y’alls prayers as I start this process.  Our prayer is that I will heal without any complications.  A speedy recovery is 2nd on our list of prayers, the “without complications” is the biggest part.  I think the biggest thing I’m scared of is that I’ve worn glasses since 2nd grade.  I don’t really know what it’s like to not have to depend on them.   10 days after my surgery, I’m going to the long awaited Love Affair workshop on Bald Head Island, NC.   It’s a workshop just for women.  I’m so excited to learn better ways to shoot and handle my business and juggle being a stay at home mom too.  I’ll come home in time to spend the day with my husband, Adam, on his birthday…THE BIG 30!  The day after that, I head to Asheville, NC for Corey McNabb’s Rockstar Workshop.  I’m going to learn how to make all of my bride’s feel like rockstars!  One of things I’m super excited about is being able to shoot at The Biltmore!  Corey’s going to be taking his show on the road soon.  If you’re interested in catching up with him, here’s the website to his rockstar road trip, hopefully he’s coming to a city near you! I’m home for a few weeks after the McWorkshop and then I’ll be taking it to Vegas for WPPI!  So there’s a lot going on in the Velasco household.  So if things get done a little slowly, I’m sorry, we’ll get it done eventually!   Happy end of the week everyone!

Princess Jocelyn

You will recognize Jocelyn from her “Crazy Town” family.  She is one of our neighbors and was in one of those moods when we did her family session.  Not to mention she had a HUGE scratch on her face from her brother Cade while they were “sword fighting” with sticks.  So I decided to make the trek across the cul-de-sac to shoot her in her element….in all her princess dresses.  This girl is HI-LARIOUS!  You wouldn’t think that she’s the girly-princess type, but she totally is!   best-3.jpg best-5.jpg best-6.jpg best-7.jpg best-8.jpg HAHA!!!  She’s flying!!!best-10.jpg How ladylike! best-12.jpg best-1.jpg

I shot the Stanfills a couple of weeks ago.  It’s taken me forever to post their pictures because I’ve had a project that has kept me as my computer’s slave till today.  I’m so sorry it took me so long guys.  I met Rebekah this past fall.  She’s a new photographer in the greater Knoxville area and has been one of my blog stalkers for a little while.  We had such a great time shooting, even though I was late (YIKES!).  Anyway, make sure to check out her website HERE!stanfills-1.jpg stanfills-2.jpg stanfills-3.jpg stanfills-4.jpg stanfills-5.jpg stanfills-7.jpgI think this is my favorite!  stanfills-9.jpg stanfills-10.jpg stanfills-11.jpg

Slowly but Surely

I am making little changes here and there to my website.  I’ve added another wedding gallery that will feature most of the stuff that I’ve shot this year.  Hang tight though.  While I’ve added the gallery, there are a little over 200 pictures in it!  I’ll do a little more refining as I get time here and there.  Apparently the web company I use has been SWAMPED with business.  Great for them, but sucks for me.  I have plans to get another website so I can have one that’s dedicated solely to weddings.  Since I’ve been dragging my feet on it, I have to get behind who knows how many millions of people.  Apparently they got the same amount of business in one day that they got all of last year!  By the way, I’m talking about the awesome people at http://www.bludomain.com.  Way to go BLU!

Let me Clarify

I need to reword the Comment contest.  The contest is for people who have a session or wedding posted.  Whoever has the most comments left on their session post are the ones who can win.  It’s not who leaves the most comments over the course of the year.  I’m sorry to all of those who have left a comment for their individual tally.  There’s no way I can keep track of who leaves the most comments.  Once again, it’s the shoot post that has the most comments by the end of the year wins.  The contest is only for sessions shot in 2008.  I hope this all makes sense.  So (1) posts only in 2008 and (2) the post that has the most comments wins.

Ok, so I said I was going to announce and re-announce some contests I’ve come up with.  These require a TON of planning and campaigning on your part.   CONTEST #1 – THE FIRST DANCE Pretty self explanatory.  For my future bride and grooms.  Come up with a creative first dance and win a prize.  You don’t have to tell anyone that it’s coming, but you HAVE to let me know that you have something up your sleeve so I can be ready and on point.  It doesn’t have to be your first dance, it can be something planned during the reception.  Just give me a heads up.  Here are a couple of inspiration videos from youtube.  THRILLER , BIG BUTTS . CONTEST #2 – COMMENTS    I love it when people leave comments on my blog.  It makes me feel good to know that there are people actually looking and that all of the work I put into the blog isn’t for nothing.  I know that the people who get the comments from their shoots love to know that people like their pictures.  This is for any session posted regardless of what kind of shoot it is.  Whoever has the most comments by December 31, 2008 will win a prize. WHAT’S THE PRIZE???I don’t know, what do you guys want?  A canvas print?  Album credit?  Another shoot?  A slideshow of your shoot?  Chime in and let me know what you think.  So start planning and campaigning!  Good luck!!
