Emily and Mark were also in town during the big family weekend.  Emily is actually Michael’s twin sister.  It was really great to see both of them again.  They brought their dog Kadie down to get a couple of glamour shots.  Maybe I have a future in 4 legged children photography!

Mike and Janelle

Ok, so thanks to hurricane Gustav, my vacation is in jeopardy.  Our prayer is that it hits Cuba, slows down, and bypasses my beloved Cayman Brac… THERE’S A HAMMOCK THERE CALLING ME!!!  It’s looking like I will not have a clean to do list, but it will at least make things better if I can get down there and forget about the list for a few days.  I also have a really awesome shoot planned that I’ve been looking forward to for months, so GO NORTH YOUNG GUSTAV.

I met Mike and Janelle at the Knoxville January bridal show. They were the last people to stop by and probably the ones that I talk to the longest.  We just hit it off right away.  I’m sure you could tell that from their e-session that we have a ton of fun.  Even though it was possibly one of the hottest days of the year and their wedding was outside, on a brick patio, in full sun, at 4 in the afternoon (I know you guys are tired of hearing about that, but blog stalkers have the right to know!) we still had a great time.

Mike wrote Janelle a note that he wanted her to read after she got her dress on.  Janelle and her mom had to take turns reading it because they both kept crying.

They made the decision to see each other before.  It was great for them to have that opportunity to spend some time together before the craziness of the day came crashing in around them.  I asked them after it was all said and done if they thought it was the right decision, and they said absolutely YES.  I loved being able to spend the day together and go through everything together.  They also said that it didn’t take anything away from Janelle walking down the aisle.  Mike was still nervous and excited to see her and Janelle was just as excited to walk down to him.

I had just gone to see John Michael Cooper (Alt-F) in Atlanta and I was inspired to do something a little different.  This wasn’t what I was aiming for, but I still L O V E it!

This was actually their  1 year dating anniversary.  special!

In the middle of their vows the heat finally got to them, so her mom jumped up to their aid with their program fan.

Since we finished all of the pictures before hand, we took off immediately after the ceremony to grab some of just them while the guests made their way into the AC

Leave it to me to find a stump in the middle of the woods right next to one of the most photographed spots at Whitestone.

I don’t remember what was said, but I’m pretty sure it was embarrassing for Mike.

Why, hello Mr. Benjamin!

And hello to you Ms….um…old lady with a hat.  Does anyone know what currency that is.

check out this light!  It’s scrumdidliumptious!

This was a sweet moment with Janelle and her Grandmother.

Alright, Best Man 101 class is in session.  What do you do with the keys to the getaway car after you’ve finished trashing it?  Or maybe I should say, what do you NOT do with the keys?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Whatever you do, DO NOT LOCK THEM IN THE CAR!!!!!!  After the minor key fiasco, Mike and Janelle took another car and made the best man drive theirs when the locksmith got it open.  So after trashing the car, he had to drive to Knoxville (a 45 minute drive).

“I have 2 rings!”

Here are pictures from the last shoot we did at Homewood.  We had Shyla and Eric back again as well as Jill.  It was a fun indoor shoot where we got to play around with lighting a little bit.  It was a good way for us to finish off the week.  Of course the next day Amber Holritz shared her philosophy and approach to lifestyle photography, which was amazing and inspiring.  Thank you so much to the crew at Corey McNabb Photography and Amber Holritz (along with the rest of the Holritz clan for letting us have their wife and mom for the week.  It was a great week filled with wonderful tips, ideas, reality checks, fun, food, and fellowship!  homewood-31.jpg homewood-8.jpg homewood-9.jpg homewood-12.jpg homewood-14.jpg homewood-15.jpg homewood-19.jpg homewood-20.jpg homewood-22.jpg Eric set this picture up, but I had to jump in on the action ’cause it was just too cool.homewood-26.jpg

Come to think of it, I don’t think that vertical one in the doorway is mine. The one he posted has more of the ground in it than I do. I guess that’s the bad thing about shooting in a workshop with 18 other people and only 1 model. You’re bound to get the exact same shot as someone else. Mine’s pretty close though!

Call to Nashville Brides! (past or future)

I’m going to be coming up to Nashville for a great workshop that The Mclellans are hosting at the end of the month.  There are 3 of us coming up from Knoxville and we were hoping to have a “trash the dress” session with one of the photographers former brides.  IT FELL THROUGH!  So, if you have been a bride or have a wedding dress and you wouldn’t mind being tossed in some water somewhere, let me know!  We’ll be coming up on Sunday October 28.  There will be at least 3 photographers, so you’ll get lots of great pictures.

If you’re a photographer and your interested in this great workshop we’re going to, there are still spots available.  Like I said, The Mclellans are hosting it, but we’re all getting together to meet and shoot with David Beckstead.  He’s an amazing photographer and extremely celebrated.  We’ll have 2 shoots on Monday and then we’ll critique with David on Tuesday.  It will be a great time to ask him questions and pick his brain.  He’s made a great career and he’s someone that everyone can learn something from.  If you’re interested in joining us, contact Melanie Mclellan at mel@mclellanstudio.com.

Shoot on “The Brac”

About a month ago, I went down to Cayman Brac for my annual women’s retreat over labor day weekend. While it was a nightmare getting down there, I was able to convince 2 of my friend’s to model for me. I had to take advantage this amazing island! I wish we had more time to play around and also that it wasn’t FREAKIN’ HOT! I’m happy with everything I got though. Here are some of Polly.

Crazy week in LA

I feel so lucky. I just finished the second day out at the LA Pictage Partner Conference. I don’t have any pictures to post yet, but I’ll catch up with them as soon as my to do list gets a little smaller. To catch some of you up, Pictage is a great company that I use as my online storefront and lab. They’re so much more than that though. They’ve really made this great community where photographers at all levels can come together and learn from each other. I’ve had the great pleasure to speak to and learn from some of the most sought after and celebrated photographers in our industry. There were so many, there’s no way I can name them all. Some that have shot weddings I KNOW you’ve heard of are Bob Davis (Eva Longoria and Tony Parker), Denis Reggie (JFK Jr and Caroline Bassette, the Today Show Weddings), Mike Colon (Usher), David Jay, Jules Bianchi, Liana Lehman, Nathan and Amber Holritz (I’m just saying them because Nathan is sitting across from me…JK!), and SO many more. I almost feel like it’s not fare to even name a couple of them because they are all so amazing.
I’ve been so hungry for information and learning how other people get their shots and run their business that this has come at the perfect time for me. Now I’ll be coming home, throwing everything away and starting from scratch! Ok, so not really, but I’ll be doing some serious evaluations. Hopefully my blog and websites will be getting a bit of a facelift soon. I’m also going to be starting to send out e-mail newsletters. So if you’re interested in getting any of those, please leave a comment for this post and let me know. I don’t know when I’ll get my first one out, but I’m going to start taking addresses now.
I hope that all of you reading this blog are well and are excited about the upcoming fall season. I know I’m excited for it to not be 100 anymore!
